Q: Gray screen

i am having a serious problem with the video controller. My MacBook Pro will come on and shimmy lines until it goes gray and tells you to hold down the power button to reboot.  I am sure I need a new controller. control D  Any ideas of cost and if it needs to be shipped back or can it be replaced in a store.
