New to Mac - Printer Problems

I have HP Photosmart C8180 All in one printer (2006) When I scan everything comes out with three black horizontal bars on the doc. Just bought a 17' MacBook Pro Software OS X 10.8.4 (12E55). Should I try to fix it or replace with one like it? If so what works well with my new Apple.
