Ipod touch Blue screen with Pink line?

I was using my ipod touch this morning, (4th gen, 64gb) and I started up a game of PVZ. It loaded fine but after it finished loading, it turned to a blue screen. The blue screen has a pink line on the right side of the screen. I have been reading online and people are saying to either let it go dead and try to turn it on, or to restore it. I REALLY dont want to restore it though. I have about a years worth of pictures on that ipod that I cant get back if I lose all my data. Any help? Much appriciated if I can bypass a restore. Thanks!

First backup the iPod

iOS: How to back up and restore your content

If y can;t do that it is very likely all the data on the iPod is lost

Next try:

- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.

- Try on another computer

- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
