Apple keeps submitting this update to my Mac. I have downloaded it at least a half dozen times. Why doesn't it register as complete?

It will work. To check that you have OS X 10.8.4 after installing the Combo installer, open > About this Mac, and check Version
I have downloaded and installed this update multiple times. I can't understand why my Mac keeps asking me to download it again and again.
