So that means 5 computers and 5 iDevices or 1 computer and 9 iDevices or anywhere in between.

Associating a device to an AppleID has nothing to do with syncing it to iTunes.

Think for a minute...if you could "associate" your Apple ID to an unlimited number of devices for the purpose of "Automatic Downloads"...well, anyone could, in theory, distribute millions of copies of content, for free. That's why Apple imposed a limit, & a 90 day "time out" period.
