Can Memory from a mid 2011 Mac Mini be used in a Late 2012 Mini?

Looking to upgdare my late 2012 mini - Have 2 X4GB from mid 2011 mini - can this be used? I know there is a "speed" difference in the specs but will this really make a difference?

Mac mini (Late 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)
