Does your iPhone relock to a network?

Hello.

I bought my iPhone 5 from O2. Today, I asked O2 to unlock my iPhone from their network. I want to change networks to 3 UK and keep my O2 SIM card to use when I'm traveling. Is it possible to use different SIM cards of different networks on the iPhone without it locking? I have read that the iphone locks to the network of the SIM card inserted.

iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.2

If your phone is officially unlocked by your carrier (O2 in this case), it will remain pertinently unlocked. The only phones that lock to the network when a SIM card is installed are those sold as locked to that network.

Note that iPhones which have been hacked to unlock, will re-lock to the original network (regardless of what SIM card is installed) whenever updated or restored.
