My iPad's home button isn't working properly

When I press the home button, it either works properly, hardly even works, or never even works. I'm leaving this question the 27th time this happened and I have been counting. So please help me.

iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 6.1.3

Calibrate Home button



1. Open a stock application e.g. Calendar or Youtube



2. Hold down the power button until the "slide to power off" control appears



3. as soon as you see it, press the home button and keep it pressed until the red slider disappears and the app is force quit to the home menu
