Best email client for my desktop to sync contacts?

My boss is currently using Thunderbird on his desktop computer as his mail and contact software. He just got an ipad mini, and gave it to me to set up everything.

I got his email set up, no problem. But I'm running into problems with his contacts, since they are all stored in Thunderbird. I saw some optional add-ons, which would let me sync contacts with google and then with the ipad. But I also noticed that Mozilla will no longer be supporting Thunderbird, and I thought it might be time to switch to something else.

His email is provided by our local phone company. He hates using their webmail, and insists on a desktop client.

I am personally not a big fan of Outlook.

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

JoAnne

Finding a client for the desktop other than Outlook could be a challange, but have a look at this: http://www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five-email-clients-to-help-ease-you-a way-from-outlook/

Getting the contacts list out of Thunderbird and into the mail app could present some issue (I haven't even looked at thunderbird in years). I don't see any mention of an export function on the website, but that would be worth looking into. Also check skybest and see if there is a function for importing contacting to the web version. And then sync contacts.

Using Google for contacts (but not necessarily mail) might be a viable option as well.

Is this mail account a POP or IMAP. If it is POP, he may find managing mail on the two devices to be a more of a challange than he wants to undertake.

I had actually already seen that webpage, and I'm currently leaning towards opera mail. I just wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations for any client that might be easier to sync the contacts with his ipad.

Thunderbird does appear to have the option to export, and skybest.com does appear to have the option to import to the webmail. But if I get them into the webmail, how do I go from there to sync them onto the ipad?

Can you tell me more about using google for contacts, but not email? We already use google for our calendar, so I'm thinking it might be easiest to head in that direction. My main question with that is how will he access the contacts from his email client?

I'm pretty sure skybest.com is pop. But like I said, I've got the email part working. My boss is aware that once he downloads email onto his desktop client they won't be available on his ipad. He really just wants access to the emails when he's out of the office. And he'd really like to be able to send emails using the contact list.

Thanks

Opera may be a good option.

Not 100% sure you can, but check to see if a Contacts option is available in mail setting. Sounds like this service is similar to Windstream down in my neck of the woods, which doesn't support this. However, if it ism turn it on.

Once synced, the contacts will show up in teh Contacts App and be accessible for mail the same if if they were on the device (actually, technically speaking they will be).

I find the idea of using a POP based account for business purposes on multiple devices like that a little scary. but to each his own I suppose.
