The problem did not exist when I was logged in as guest user. When I logged back in as myself, the problem once again had disappeared.
This story isn't making much sense, so I have to think that one or more of the system modifications or fonts that you installed is causing the problem in some obscure way.
Back up all data.
Launch the Font Book application and validate all fonts. You must select the fonts in order to validate them. See the built-in help and this support article for instructions. If Font Book finds any issues, resolve them, then boot in safe mode to rebuild the font caches. Boot again as usual and test.
Note: If FileVault is enabled on some models, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. In that case, ask for instructions.
Also uninstall the "Coupon Printer" plugins according to the developer's instructions.
Removed four fonts. Rebuilt the font caches. Everything is working well again. Thanks.

Safari and Google aren't loading again. What else can I try?

Did you remove the plugins?
The only plug-in I removed was the Coupon Printer, using the uninstaller. Should I have removed more?
I just went back again to look for Coupon uninstaller and got an error message: "...Unknown OS Version 10.8.4, exiting." Could this be my problem. Is there another way to uninstall?
After I tried uninstalling this afternoon, I went to Safari help menu and didn't see coupon printer under the Installed Plug-in list, so thought it was gone.
If it's not listed, then it's gone. Is Safari still not working?
Safari and Google are back.
When Safari and Google quit working, I reboot, and that fixes it for a few hours. But that's pretty inconvenient. I'd like to find a real solution. Is there a problem with OS 10.8? I never had this problem before.
I have my doubts that one browser is really working when the others are not. Are you quite sure about that?
Yes, I can continue to use Firefox whether the others are working or not.
