Ipad and Apple TV

Hello, I recently bought an Apple TV box and am having difficulty getting my ipad to do anything with it. They are both connected by wifi to the same network, but I cannot find any airplay button or for my ipad to appear as a shared computer on my Apple TV. I have made sure that home sharing is on on my Apple TV and AirPlay is on on the Apple TV. I have tried looking in settings>music and settings>video on my ipad and all that appears under home sharing is my apple I'd. When I press it the only option I get is to log-out. As for AirPlay, I cannot find the icon anywhere when I double press the button on my ipad and scroll either left or right. Someone please help!

Thanks Diavonex but I have tried all of the instructions that you have posted. I really don't know what else to try, hence posting in here.

Setup Apple TV

1. Setup Apple TV

(a) Connect cables and power cord

(b) Turn on TV and select Input

(c) Configure Apple TV

2. Setup Home Sharing in iTune (computer)

File>Home Sharing. Enter Apple ID and Password

3. Setup Home Sharing on Apple TV

Settings>Computer>Turn on Home Sharing. Enter Apple ID and Password

4. Pair Apple TV with Remote Control

General>Remotes>Pair Apple Remote

Could the problem be that I have no computer? Just I-Pad and Apple TV?

I have tried rebooting, the router, Apple TV and I-Pad.

Apple TV seems to work fine, I can see songs I have purchased on iTunes and photos in my photos team, but I cannot get my ipad to appear as a shared device under 'computers.'

I have music on my ipad synced from an old laptop and as such it does not appear under music on Apple TV, I assumed I could listen using home sharing?

I cannot get Airplay to work at all.
