Hi, our son has been using our family itunes account, but is now old enough to have his own account. Can he transfer the apps from his ipod (bought on the family account) to his new account?

Hi All

Our son has been using our family itunes account but is now old enough, and wants, his own. Can he transfer the apps on his ipod (bought on the family account) to his new itunes account? We'd hate him to lose all the apps he's bought, but he'd rather have his own itunes now ....

No. Those apps will be linked to that Apple ID and can not be transfered. He can still use them if he knows the password for that account. Another alternative is to use the family account for purchases and create a new one for his iCloud content. Everyone should have a separate Apple ID for iCloud even if you share one for iTunes purchases.

No. Apps can't be transferred between accounts. He can keps using the apps purchased with the original account.

Note:

- Apps are locked to the account that purchased them.

- To update apps you have to sign into the account that purchased the apps. If you have apps that need updating purchased from more than one account you have to update them one at a time until the remaining apps were purchased from one account.
