Thanks this then makes up my mind towards iPhone5 and apple as i approached the carrier to and they gave me the same type of answer.. we don't replace the screen we quote you on a new phone .. This is pathetic and a pity as the phone is such a jewel . But im sorry to say i think support wise and for backup Samsung s4 will be purchased . Thanks for the info on this gap on apples support In South Africa

If Apple does not provide direct support on South Africa this means their product haven't reached a significant amount of customers, so there's no reason to do it. Here in Brazil the situation is the same as South Africa, but they're opening their first retail store next month maybe, what is nice, this means that Brazil became a country where Apple customers are now a nice amount of people.

The iPhone 5 screen replacement is still being phased in even in the US...not all Apple stores are fully trained to do this yet. Plus, the price is not $128, it is $149 (US).

Unfortunately this is a market issue, the Apple market has to reach the point at which it is profitable to do something, direct sales, direct service...until that time all the user can do is wait for things to change.

You dont enter a market as the leader in technology as they claim and don't have you support ready my friend, really you pay 950 dollars here in South Africa for the phone, apple has been on the market for years and this is not a excuse i accept. Lets be real BMW does not launch a new M3 and then wait to get a certain amount of units in the market before they give backup and support its there from day 1.
