I have google fiber network with speeds of up to 1 gig. But my speed tests on my iPad show no improvement over my previous wifi speeds. Google says its my iPad? Are thy right?

Google is clear that the full 1 gig speeds are only available through wired ethernet connections. We just got installed yesterday, and the wifi connection on our wireless devices (other than our iPad) is about 300mbits.
However, one of our iPads (a mini) is only getting about 10 mbits, and seems even slower. So, I do agree that there is something about the iPad that is not playing nice with Google's router.
I'm getting anywhere from 1 to 21 Mbps on the iPad. When my Mac is hooked up to Ethernet I cannot get nearly a gig of speed. But on wifi it's not doing much better than the iPad. Google sent a tech who increased the wifi signal but it doesn't seem to have helped. What am I missing?
I DO get nearly a gig with Ethernet hookup.
You could buy a second wifi router like an apple airport and connect the airport via an eithernet cable to the google router. May need to adjust what channels the airport uses.
This is a possible work-around you shouldn't have to do, but that is life.
