server preferences dimmed on snow leopard server

Think I am having problems with DNS setup, but my "server preferences" window is dimmed, so I can not set anything.

OS X Server 10.6? Try using Server Admin.app, and not Server Preferences.app. Server Admin.app will take a minute or two to get going and then a minute or so after each operation request, at least until you get your OS X Server DNS server configuration sorted. It'll be very slow. Once the local DNS services are sorted, Server Admin.app will respond very quickly.
