Hi - While I was importing some photos from a camera, iphoto crashed and when I reopened it, all my library photos from 2004 on were gone. I read a few threads about rebuilding the library, however, when I choose that function (disk utility), nothing happens. I can see the photos under Pictures and the library is there, I just can't access it in iphoto. I'm using iphoto 6 and OSX 10.6.8. Please help!

The disk utility is not used to rebuild or repair the iPhoto library, rather there is a built in function in iPhoto to assist with that.

I would run through these steps one by one until the issue is resolved.

Disk Utility isn't used in rebuilding an iPhoto Library. Apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

Yes. The link I posted for iPLM is for the older version that works with older systems.
Hi. I'm having trouble adding my iphoto library to library manager. When I choose my iphoto library to add, nothing happens, so should I be adding the "originals", or "data" subfiles? Even when I choose these, a number of folders displaying years (2000-2013) come up. These are not my folder names, however, my photos are there by import date.
Hope I explained this well.

Are you using the older version of iPhoto Library Manager? If so click on Add Library, go to the Pictures folder, select the library folder and add. That's it. The window will look like this:
Yes, I have that screen, but when I click on "Add" it doesn't show up in the left hand pane of iLibrary Manager.
Does the contents of your library folder have all of the same elements as in this screenshot of my iPhoto 6 library folder?

That looks OK. What is showing in the left hand pane of iPLM? What is listed as Default in your screenshot?

Remove that default from iPLM, close everthing, reboot, launch iPLM again and try to add the library again.
If that fails contact the developer for some help. He's very responsive.
Otherwiese you can try the following:
Starting over from scratch with new library
Start over with a new library and import the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from your original library as follows:
1. Open the library package like this.
2. Launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and, when asked, select the option to create a new library.
3. Drag the subfolders of the Originals (iPhoto 09 and earlier) or the Masters (iPhoto 11) folder from the open iPhoto Library package into the open iPhoto window a few at a time.
This will create a new library with the same Events (but not necessarily the same Event names) as the original library but will not keep the metadata, albums, books slideshows and other projects.
Note: your current library will be left untouched for further attempts at a fix if so desired.

So I ended up at the apple store for a few hours yesterday. We upgraded my iphoto to iphoto'11 and then imported the originals folder, like you outlined. It wasn't without issues. iphoto crashed a few times, but all the photos are now there.
Now I'm working on a time machine back up, something I haven't done before. I was doing backups with superdooper previously. I get the following error trying to do a time machine back up. I've tried it 4 different times, after re-starting my computer as well; I always get the same error at approx 1/4 of the way through. I did a verify disk utility, and no problems came up.
Any ideas/thoughts about what I should do next? I don't want another long visit at the apple store...
