Aug 22, 2013 5:28 PM in response to waltrailby Demo,You do know that you can set the iPad to go to sleep after a specified period of time without user input - correct? Settings>General>Auto Lock. You can set the timer to 2, 5, 10, 15 minutes or Never. So if you set the auto lock to 2 minutes, the iPad will go to sleep after two minutes of inactivity. You wake the iPad by tapping the sleep or the home button.

Aug 22, 2013 5:33 PM in response to Demoby waltrail,Right. I have autolock set to never. The only way I can get it to come back to life is hold both buttons until the Apple logo appears!

Aug 22, 2013 5:39 PM in response to waltrailby Demo,So you have to reset the iPad every time this occurs.... You can't wake it up just by pressing the sleep button or the home button. What cover are you using? The Apple Smart Cover?
Have you tried closing all of your apps and then reset the iPad? See if that helps.
Tap the home button once. Then tap the home button twice and the recents tray will appear at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Close them all. Tap the home button twice.
Just in case ...... Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

Aug 22, 2013 5:56 PM in response to waltrailby Demo,What cover are you using? If you leave the cover off and it works normally, I suppose that means something. You could try turning the cover lock off and see if that makes a difference. Settings>General>iPad Cover Lock/Unlock>Off. Or try turning it off, then turn it on again.

Aug 23, 2013 3:54 PM in response to Demoby waltrail,I have the standard Apple cover. I turned the cover lock off then back on, and as long as it was plugged in and charging it came on each time I opened the cover. But after unplugging it and chrcking a couple hours later it was shut off and I had to press both buttons for ten seconds to turn it back on!

Aug 23, 2013 4:14 PM in response to waltrailby Demo,It seems like maybe you have a corrupt setting but I'm not sure why that would cause the iPad to shut off and need to use a hard reset to start it up again. Have you tried resetting all settings? Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. That returns the iPad settings back to factory defaults. You won't lose any content, but you do have to set all of the device presences back to where you had them and that does take some time to do.

Aug 23, 2013 6:42 PM in response to waltrailby waltrail,Well it looked like it was working, after I reset it, but then it locked with the cover off! I give up!!
-
Aug 23, 2013 6:45 PM in response to waltrailby Demo,Never give up. It may come down to you having to restore the device to getting working properly again, but that just might fix it.
Have you thought about restoring from a backup? Do you backup regularly?
