iTunes says iPhone backup is corrupted, but I can't locate corrupt backup to delete it.

When I sync my wife's iphone 5 with iTunes I receive a message this message, "iTunes could not backup the iPhone because the backup was corrupt or not compatible with the iPhone. Delete the backup for this iPhone, then try again." When I go to iTunes--->Preferences--->Devices there is no backup for this particluar phone listed. How do I locate the corrupt backup so I can delete and backup this phone?

I didn't have any backups listed in my Preferences > Devices. So I went to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync and noticed that all that was in there was an alias to 'Backups' rather than a Backup folder.

I'd recently relocated my iTunes library, so I assume this was a vestige of that...?

Anyway, I deleted that alias and attempted a fresh backup again from within iTunes. This time, the backup succeeded!

My guess is that iTunes successfully found the 'Backup' item in MobileSync, but since the alias pointed to nothing, it failed with the above error.

Cheers

Thanks! The info in that doc didn't specifically address my problem, but it did lead me to the answer. The backups for the phones and ipads are in Library>ApplicationSupport>MobileSync>Backup. Inside the Backup folder is a folder for each device that has been backed up, and the folders are named with the UDID of each device. All I had to do was determine the UDID for the phone in question, trash the corresponding folder, and then back up that phone. Thanks agian for your help!
