Q: 2nd Time Capsule issues
Hey guys,
I have a home network with
Netgear Router > Time Capsule 2013 > Airport Express.
I want to add an older time capsule (2012) to the network & use it to back up 2 x laptops to. I don't need it to extend the range.
My main desktop is backed up to the newer time capsule. Additionally we have 2 iphones & 1 x iPad + 2 Apple Tv's all running beautifully on this netwrok UNTIL I try & add the 2nd time capsule then it all comes crashing down.
My question is how can I add it safely ?
To the new TC via Ethernet or just plug it in & let it attach itself wirelessly ? Or to the AE via Ethernet ? If so which combo of LAN & WAN do I use ? Should it be in Bridge mode ?
Thanks in advance !
Airport Time Capsule 802.11ac, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

This is much better done in full isolation to the network.. so plug the TC by ethernet into a computer.
If you need to reset the TC to factory..
Choose bridge mode..
Turn off wireless.. There is no need for it if you have plenty of wireless signal.
So just go to the wireless tab and select it as off.
update the TC..
Then plug it by ethernet into the new TC.
As a bridged device it will pick up the IP from the router. whichever that is.. netgear or new TC.
And present itself on the network.. it may take a few minutes to appear in the airport utility.. if it doesn't show after a couple of minutes.. either ping it in a terminal or do a full network reset .. shut down everything and reboot in correct order.. modem.. new tc.. old tc.. 2min between each of those.. then all the clients.
If you do end up wanting to use the old TC for wireless you can follow the roaming instructions.
