iPhone 4s water damage

Hi, I recently bought a 2nd hand iphone 4S and it has been giving me a bit of a problem. Sometimes I find that i cant hear music without the earphones and the volume slider disappears. I've been searching for a suloution for a few days now. I came across a video about water damage and iphones. I saw an orange circle in the earphone jack and a light orange square just above the charging port. Aside from the random no sound issue the phone is working okay.The person I bought it from is going to change the charging port, do you think that will fix the issue?

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1.3

Unauthorised repairs are never a guaranteed fix, yes it is an option that you could try but keep in mind that if is still faulty afterwards and you decide to take it to Apple they will deny you service due to the unauthorised repairs. Best option ould be to take it into an Apple Store and if need be replace it for a fee.

The thing is its second hand and out of warranty.

Even if it is out of warranty you can still get it replaced as an out of warranty service for a fee through Apple.

Really? I called them and they basically told me I'm screwed. My gut is telling me to demand my money back from this guy but he is probably going to deny the water damage. I feel so stupid.

Question, how easily can the water sensors be triggered? In trying to get back the sound I blew in ports and also used compressed air as well as a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. Do you think that I could have triggered the water sensor?

It's not a "water sensor," it's a "Liquid Contact Indicator." All liquids have the potential to compromise electronic circutry. The type of liquid that makes contact with the indicator does not matter.
