I have forgotten my password for my iPad but I dont want to restore it. What do I do?

You have no choice, you need to restore to reset password.
Do you have a backup that is not passcode protected?
Im not sure, when does it back it up?
You have to tell us when it backs up. We don't know what you are using to backup - iTunes or iCloud.
Chances are, if you have to ask, you probably aren't backing up or you would know the answer to your own question. But if you are backing up with iCloud, the iPad should backup when it is locked, connected to WiFi and connected to power. If you use iTunes, the backups occur when you sync with iTunes.
You have to restore the iPad if you forgot the passcode. You can't restore from a backup without unlocking the iPad. So that doesn't apply to your case anyway.
