iPad Case Orientation and Camera Use

I am waiting to get a case and a screen protector before I start using the iPad. I have been researching a lot of cases with stands. There are many that do landscape. I am trying to find ones that also does portrait. I was hoping someone can give recommendations.

Also, how does one take pictures using the rear facing camera if the case has a cover? Is it easy with a cover or is it more cumbersome than getting a case without a cover?

Thanks.

Nearly every case I've ever seen has a cutout on the back section for the camera/lens to "see" through. This cutout should be mandatory on any case.

Sorry, I was not clear on the camera part. I was referring to the actual process of taking the picture. I guess the cover would have be open and sort of dangling to the left if I wanted to see the subject on the screen, correct? I can't simply fold it to the back, otherwise it would cover the lens. And the "shutter" buttons would be on the side.

Does that pretty much sums it up?

Take note that the Smart Cover folds over & covers only one side of the iPad at a time...to get full coverage, front and back at the same time, you'd need the Smart -Case-. I use one with my iPad 4th gen and really like it. I also have the Smart Cover but it's not really meant to protect the device, except for the screen or back when set down.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I might get the Smart Case but I have a few other questions that I hope someone can answer.

1. Overall, how durable is the Smart Case?

2. Would those "folding" areas wear out quickly from the constant folding and unfolding?

3. How well does the case protect the iPad from a minor drop (e.g. waist or table height)?

4. Does the cover also have magnets to keep the cover close and to help wake up or put the iPad to sleep?

1. Very durable and should last the life of the iPad

2. Not likely. The material used in the case is very durable

3. I really could not say because I'm not likely to test this for you 😉. I don't know about drops but it protects it well enough for you to not think twice about putting it wherever...or putting it in your PC bag snugged up next to your laptop (provided there is room).

4. The cover has magnets to trigger the iPad auto-lock but will NOT hold it closed onto the device in either the "cover covering the front" position nor the "cover folded back" position.

Read the reviews on Amazon or the Apple Store...some people love it, others hate it. I personally like it just fine. If you can, go into a Best Buy and get a hands-on if possible.
