I have a 3:20 minute Quicktime video (1280/720). Why does it take all night (10 hours+) to optimize when imported into iBooks Author? Why is Author never updated (in over a year)? The video optimization progress bar is always inaccurate and worthless.

How many applications running at the same time?
On an older iMac I had an issue where the intro video optimization process just hung. I re-inserted the video and this time the % progress bar appeared and about 20-30secs later it was done.
If that doesn't work for you, how about close iBA and reopen/reinsert.
