pram reset not working

Macbook air.....PRAM reset not working. It only makes the regular noise ONCE, then shows a blue screen, and then the login screen. SMC reset didn't work either. How do you remove power source from a macbook air? Take out the battery? Is there a different way to do the PRAM and the SMC reset?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.4)

I found the answer after reading some other blogs and trying different things.....I originally tried the SMC and the PRAM resets because I was unable to get into the machine. It kept going into safe boot mode, and then still wouldn't boot at that. ANSWER!!!!

It ended up being that I had a 'stuck' shift key. I don't know which one it was, but I alleviated the problem by plugging in a USB keyboard. I used it for typing in my username and password, and NOT the standard keypad. It worked! So I then tested further by opening a word (or text) document, and typing with the macbook air keyboard. All characters were in caps, no matter which 'shift' key I pressed. Time for a new keyboard...........at least I'm still under AppleCare! I hope this may help some of you out there.

SMC Reset:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
  3. On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
  4. Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
  5. Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Note
: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

PRAM Reset:

  1. Shut down the computer.
  2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
  3. Turn on the computer.
  4. Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
  5. Release the keys.

Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
