how do i update my 4th gen ipod

Maybe the update that your trying to get might not be compatable with your device. 🙂

Just what are you saying? When you update via iTunes you only get compatible updates.

4th generation iPod Touch runs the latest iOS (6.1.3) so if there is any update at all, it is compatible.

You can download to iOS 6.1.6, the same goes for the iPhone 3GS. If you want to customize it to get the iOS 7 skin on iPod touch 4th generation, it would be terrible because the only 3.5 inch display that supports iOS 7 is the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. So, if you get the iOS 7 skin on iPod touch 4th generation, they'll not recognize your iPod touch. iTunes would think it is an iPhone.
