My system preferences was accidentally deleted by a sibling. Anyway to get it back?

So I have the 2011 iMac and I was wondering if I could get the system preferences back and such...

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Backup your important data then restore 10.6 from your install DVD > Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install
