Q: Itunes 11.05.5 will not home share to apple tv gen 2 ver. 5.3 (6105).  I am able to see my music but when going to computers I am told I need to turn on home sharing.  Everything worked great until I updated to the latest iTunes ver.

I have rebooted the router, restarted the computer several times, restarted apple tv twice, uninstalled iTunes, rebooted, reinstalled iTunes, rebooted, open and closed iTunes many times.  Sharing will not work on apple tv or iphone (only 2 devices I have).  I can listen to music in my library fine so I have network connectivity.  Everything worked fine until I updated to the latest version of iTunes.  I have gone through the steps found in other forums to check network, iTunes, sharing, firewall, etc.  Nothing has worked so far.  Anyone have any ideas?

If it helps, I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

I have exactly the same issues since installing 11.05.5. on 18.8.13

Initially I tried all of the usual remedies (reboot router/Apple TV/PC/ turn Homeshare on & off etc etc) and graduated to uninstalling & reinstalling my anti virus (Microsoft Security Essentials), running with Windows Firewall turned off, uninstalling (completely) and reinstalling iTunes all to no avail.

Apple TV still works perfectly as far as accessing TV/Movies etc over my wireless network but will not under any circumstances recognise my PC & iTunes folder (containign the photo's I want to stream to the TV).

Nothing in mario49's link to the Troubleshooting Home Sharing page resolves the situation and several conversations with Apple Support have failed to produce a solution.

It would be interesting to hear if Kardeshev & I are a very small group with this problem or if it is a wider problem.

I am also running Windows 7 64 bit and the most recent Apple TV (only 1 month old).

My airplay only works from my iphone to my appletv (version 5.3). My itunes (version 11.0.5.5) can see the appletv as the airplay icon appears in itunes. but when i try to play music through appletv it says it has connection issue or it has timed out. Also if i try to connect to my itunes library from my appletv i get another error about connections.

I have noticed that for example : if my iphone is currently playing music through appletv and i try to play music from my itunes library to the appletv...when i press play with airplay switched on (icon turns blue) it actually turns off my music playing from my iphone. It as if itunes is attempting to connect but is unable to do so.

This all began when appletv was updated!! Im in Australia! APPLE SORT IT OUT!!!!!!!

Am i not the only one having this problem?!?!?!?

P.S Apple Admins...... please stop sending us links to the most obvious troubleshooting pages! the reason we are on here typing comments like this is because we have TRIED EVERYTHING!!!!!!

I have raised this issue with Apple Support, their response is to say that there are no known issues with iTunes 11.05.5 as far as this problem is concerned, that there hasn't been widespread reporting of this fault and that it must be a Windows or network issue - i.e. usual Apple response; blame Windows and this of course fails to acknowledge that in my case my Apple TV was happily Homesharing with my PC, running exactly the Windows configuration I am running today & over the same network, until the day that I updated to 11.05.5.

They have offered no solution so I am just going to sit it out and hope that the next release of iTunes addresses what is clearly a problem.

Boabee I also echo your thoughts about Apple Admins posting links to the blindly obvious, a very patronising approach.

    Hello,

this won't help you but we, being a 100% Apple household, have exactly the same problem. I can do home sharing between our Macs (the central iTunes runs on a Mac Mini) without any problems (using iTunes 11.05.5 and older versions too) but the Apple TV (on 5.3) is not displaying any computer library at all since the last upgrade. Same on our iPads (two of them still on 5.1.1, others on 6.1.3), the 'Shared Libraries' option is not even displayed anymore. But I can see Apple TV in iTunes from the Macs and the iPads. Seems to be a very strange problem. And it worked without any problems until a couple of weeks ago before the upgrade to 5.3. (So much for never change a running system).

I am also running the 11.05.05 iTunes on a Win 7 64bit PC and my AppleTV (2nd Gen) is also unable to see my library.

Just like everyone else, I am able to airplay from my phones or our iPads (of all flavors) and touch but am not able to airplay from computer nor will the TV see my library.

I have tried averything in the support posts, I have tried disabling UPnP services, completely disabling my aitivirus and firewall.  No avail on anything.

The only way I can see anything is to sync my movies to one of my Ipads or phone and then play it to the TV.  This is very inconvienent and disapointing.

This happened after the last update.  I do not see how it could not be related.

    PLEASE HELP

This was in no way a help. Most users know enough to troubleshoot before posting on the forums.

I've been trying for over an hour to get my itunes to share. Nothing.

It worked fine before I updated iTunes.

I am having the same issue with iTunes on my Windows 7 Lap Top with 11.0.5.5  Everything worked just fine until I installed the iTunes update. I have two iPhones, an iPod Touch, an iPad.  They can all airplay to my 2nd Gen Apple TV, my 3Rd Gen Apple TV my AirPort Express.  All through my AirPort Extreme Router.   After countless restarts, of AirPort Extreme, Apple TV’s PC, iTunes I still can’t AirPlay from my Lap Top.

And when Apple tells you it is a network or configuration thing, then I would ask them to explain why it worked perfectly before updating to 11.0.5.5, and why I have another  Windows 7 PC with the exact same setup as my Lap Top but it has iTunes 11.0.4.4  Guess what….it shows up on Computers on the Apple TV’s and It has the Airplay Icon.

Makes me think back to iOS 4 and how it totally bricked my iPhone 3G.   Lesson learned…  No mopre updates.

Oh one other thing I noticed is that the iTunes library from my Lap Top does not show up on any of my iOS devices under shared, but my computer with 10.0.4.4 does

I too have this problem after installing ITunes 11.0.5 on my WIndows 7 (Pro) 64bit PC.

My AppleTV would not see my libraries.

I had to revert to ITunes 11.0.4 and recreate all my libraries and playlists.

There is obviously a bug in ITunes 11.0.5

I did the same thing.  Reverted to 11.0.4.4 once I found the installer file.

I renamed my iTunes folder before uninstalling. Then deleted the one it created and renamed the folder back to iTunes.   Everything just as it was but now home sharing and Airplay work perfectly again.

    SOLUTION:

Go to preferences under the menu options, and select 'Sharing'. ('Preferences is under the edit options in previous versions)

    Capture.PNG

Then check 'Share my library on my local network'.

You should be able to select all the things you want to share from there.

You may need to do it to all the computers you are using.

    Hope this helps.

I already have what you ( ClayandLonnie ) have suggested with the preferences>Shareing Preferences set to share all.

I have tried turing it off, and then back on.

I have tried just sharing specific items and this still did not work.

I am going to try stepping back down to 11.04.4 as previously suggested by TheDarkCanuck when I get home tomorrow. (maybe saturday).  I am just leary about having to recreate all my libraries and how long that might take.  I have over 1.5 TB of Music and Video, that is why I would like to get it working in the current version.

Just because I don't have a Mac, it seems that this is not being taken as a real problem for the windows 7 users (maybe it is specific to 64bit).  I may try the 32bit version to see if that fixes it first.  Unless someone else has, and want to chime in.

    This is no solution.

Home sharing and sharing are different things.
