Q: Itunes 11.05.5 will not home share to apple tv gen 2 ver. 5.3 (6105).  I am able to see my music but when going to computers I am told I need to turn on home sharing.  Everything worked great until I updated to the latest iTunes ver.

I have rebooted the router, restarted the computer several times, restarted apple tv twice, uninstalled iTunes, rebooted, reinstalled iTunes, rebooted, open and closed iTunes many times.  Sharing will not work on apple tv or iphone (only 2 devices I have).  I can listen to music in my library fine so I have network connectivity.  Everything worked fine until I updated to the latest version of iTunes.  I have gone through the steps found in other forums to check network, iTunes, sharing, firewall, etc.  Nothing has worked so far.  Anyone have any ideas?

If it helps, I am running Windows 7 64 bit.

AppleTV 2, Windows 7

I think I accidently fixed it, but I tried a few things at the same time and can not be 100% sure what the fix was. Nevertheless I think the following information could help someone.

I've been following this thread for a few days as my AppleTV suddenly stopped being able to access my library on my Windows PC. I was not interested in reinstalling or anything like that, that had been recommended. There had to be something easier. Then I accidently fixed it.

Due to home renovations I had to move computer to another part of the house.

I updated iTunes to the latest version.

Shut down and moved computer. Used a different port on my router to connect the computer by Ethernet.

Turned on computer. The Network was working on laptops but AppleTV wouldnt update or show my computer library. AppleTV was connected to the right network but didn't seem to have internet access or access my library.

On a whim I changed my DNS from automatic to manual, and I used OpenDNS servers.

Then back in General Settings I noticed a setting called "Apple TV name" which was set to "Apple TV". I changed to one of the options that came up which was "Living Room". Now my Apple TV name is "Living Room Apple TV".

Then I was asked if I wanted to join home sharing which I accepted and then everything worked.

Therefore, I suggest you try changing the "Apple TV name" in the Settings (general) and if that doesnt work try changing your DNS settings to OpenDNS. After everything was working I put the DNS settings back to Automatic and there was no effect - everything still worked perfectly. Therefore the DNS settings dont need to be changed permanently but maybe temporarily.

    Any questions?

I'll try to come back and answer.
