I have seen other error codes discussed while emptying the trash but not the -50.
Whenever I empty the trash it takes me 15 minutes to do "continue" after the error code -50 pops up.
Anyway to empty it, like "force empty" without clicking "continue" hundreds of times?
Rebuild your Trash and see if the issue persists.
Go to /Applications /Utilities/Terminal and launch it.
At the prompt, copy and paste this command
sudo rm -rf ~/.Trash
Press Return.
You will be asked to enter your admin password. It will be invisible.
Enter it and press Return.
Log out and back in or restart.
Never empty the Trash in the Terminal. It's very dangerous and unnecessary.
Undeletable files can result from using Boot Camp. If that's what you do, see this thread:

I not have boot camp but also Parallels 7 installed.
When I empty the trashcan I get "53 items to delete", it then makes the sound as if everything is deleted, the icon does not change and selecting empty trash leads to the same outcome.
When I open the trash directory it shows some old deleted folders. These are folders that I had transferred from an external USB drive to my computer.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).

The message appears after I hear the "trash empty sound", nothing else.
The 53 items in the trash that cannot be deleted do not cause any message to pop up.

As I wrote, these are all files and directories that I had copied from an external USB drive (WD Passport 2 TB) to hard drives on the computer.

The drive is failing. Replace it.
It's an external drive and I have 3 more of the same model.
That's no problem at all.
All files (video, mp3...) copied successfully and work.
How do I get rid of the error -50 and get an empty trash?
Erase the drive in Disk Utility, then take it to a recycling center or claim on the warranty. Don't continue to use it.
