How do i right click and open text edit?

I do a lot of note taking while working at work.
At work I use windows on a PC which easily allows me to right click and open a "notepad" so I can start taking notes instantly.

On my mac using Tiger I have to click on the text edit program in the dock, and it will open up a new "notepad"

Can i program tiger so it will act like the pc, and give me a notepad with a right click?

The simplest way I can think of is to do this:
1- Open Automator
2- On the document's window left pane select TextEdit
3- Select New TextEdit Document
4- Drag the action to the right pane
5- From the menu File select Save As Plug-in...
6- Give the action a name and select Finder from the Plug-in For popup
The action will be saved in /Users/yourusername/Library/Workflows/Applications/Finder/ and will be available when you right-click in the Finder. You just have to select Automator > Your Action. Hope this helps.

Hi, poops.

There are a variety of third-party applications available, many of them free, for adding custom contextual menu items. Take a look at:

QuickAccess;

NuFile; and

FinderPop (beta for Mac OS X)

for a start.

More can be found in this list.

When looking for new applications, I recommend searching MacUpdate or Version Tracker. The user-submitted reviews accompanying the listings can be helpful in sorting the wheat from the chaff.

Good luck!
