USB port won't accept headset

Hi. I want to use a headset with mike for VOIP calls, but the USB ports won't function in that capacity. They accept my laptop fan and flash drive but no other peripherals. Only headsets with the iPhone-type plug-in will work.

MacBook Pro Intel Core 2 Duo, Mac OS X (10.5.7), 111 GB, 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SD RAM

Have you tried changing settings in the Sound Preferences panel? There's a YouTube video which shows what to do.

All headsets are fairly junky however. Have you considered using a USB Mic and a standard headphone.

The adj. gain and directionality of a USB standalone mic is endless powers better than even the best headset mic.
