Logic does not support USB MIDI Keyboards!?

Hey there,

is it correct that logic 7.2.1 does not support MIDI-Keyboards that are
connected via USB??
I got a Evolution (m-audio) MK-249C which is found from my System
(Apple Profiler in OsX 10.4.6) with full name as usuall. But although the m-audio guys say online that I don't need no driver and I can "plug 'n play"...
Logic does not respond to it anyhow....
Am I wrong in some way - what can I do or try...

can't help, i'm afraid but i find it interesting how many of these threads are popping up with the new hardware that doesn't need drivers..A lot of m-audio stuff too. Makes one wonder...

i am using a keystation-88 over USB, so it does work. see my folowing post regarding some curioisties...

you need to make sure that you have assigned your midi insts the correct midi driver in the paramters box in environment, and that your midi keyboard is set to midi to USB.

to assign a midi-driver? parameter box?

you can not mean the midi-channel, do you!?

this is my parameter-box on a audio-instrument1...all as usuall...

ah... your picture hasn't loaded - you need to link it to an ftp site you have loaded it to.

you will find the midi driver or port in the paramter box for the instrument in environment. it's right at the top and in your case probably says 'off'.

ah...sorry about the picture...

my settings are correct...nothing is "off" 😉

and even then i should get some midi-signal in the transport-window...didn't I!?

Does the keyboard show up in the Audio/Midi Setup utility? If not, then I would tell M-Audio that the keyboard has a problem. It's a class compliant keyboard that should just work when you plug it in.

no - nothing to see from it in the AMS utility...

even if i "search for new" or try (in logic) to find it with the
setup-manager...nothing...

i am in contact with the m-audio support, following advice so far:
"please always install the Combo Update of OS X" - which i did...
"please repair your disk permissions and try again"- ok...lets try...

but NOTHING!!...i'm getting crazy guys...anything else that comes to your mind?

Return it and get a different one if you just bought it, or call M-Audio and get them on the phone while they help you debug the problem.

I have a keystation 88es and I just plugged it in and played, didn't have to configure anything or change settings or.. or .. or.. it just worked.

The drivers that came with it were for windows, but none for the mac, it doesn't need them.

If you don't see it in the AMS utility, it could either be the keyboard or the USB cable. However, since you claimed you saw the keyboard in the System Profiler, I doubt it's the cable, though it doesn't hurt to try. Either way, the problem seems to point in M-Audio's direction.

the cable seems to be ok - i've changed it -
and the complete behaviour of the keyboard
is "as usuall"...
i am working with it for two years now...

Yeah... the keyboard end. 🙂

Check the manual and see if there's any sort of factory reset function on the keyboard and try to jump start that couple of times. At this point, it's a 50-50 shot.

You did not mention if you checked the MIDI/USB
setting in the keyboard. Mine gives you a choice
but will not send data over Midi and
USB. It is a either/or kind of setup.

you must install driver! 249C not working without special patch, see www.m-audio.com - support - drivers and browse download matrix.
