Won't switch on? and Where's the Serial Number?!

Hi guys,

I'm trying to get to the bottom of a broken MacBook which I have.

It's one of the white ones, and I remember I got it in 2007. Not used it for absolutely ages, because it essentially died and I bought a new one, so I thought I'd try to sell it for parts.

Firstly, I'l see if anyone has any idea of how to fix it, or at least what might be wrong:

It seems to power up; the white LED is on and I can hear the computer/HD whiring. However, the screen doesn't come on at all - it just stays black.

Any ideas?

Also, because of this, I can't get into it to show me what the spec is. It was so long ago that I can't really remember the specifics...I know it's either a 2,1 or a 3,1 model, but not sure which one.

Annoyingly, I can't see to find the serial number! I've looked in all the right places, and thought it would be under the battery compartment on these models, but it doesn't seem to be there.

Any other way I can find out?

Cheers,

James
