MY IPOS WONT RESPOND TO ANYTHING< ONLY THE APPLE LOGO COMES UP

my ipod (older version) 5th generation video, is not responding after software update. since then it responds when i reset it by holding down the menu and ceter button. but it then just goes back the black screen with the apple logo. it doesnt mount in windows explore or itunes
