Q: Remove the anti-glare coating?

Well I'm not sure how I did it but somehow trying to get those "keyboard" imprint marks off my screen I managed to remove some of the coating from the screen. I'm guessing it's the anti-glare coating.

 

I also was cleaning the keyboard and such and who knows maybe stuff got on the screen that way when I cleaned it.

 

Anyway it looks kinda crappy so I figured I'd just take the rest fo the coating off. Underneath it is a nice smooth coating, presumably the bare plastic.

 

I thought I'd used Windex to cause the problem in the first place but now I'm not so sure.

 

The problem is, I have gotten the coating off maybe 60% of the screen but can't get it off the rest!

 

Anyone have any ideas?  I've tried rubbing alcohol, nailpolish remover, windex, some kitchen bleach stuff. Nothing will get the rest of it off. I tried a bit of an abrasive to rough up the coating and then back to the windex but no go.

 

Surely something out there will wisk it away, as it was far too easy to remove in the first place. 

 

Ideas?

    I used windex a lot of rubbing and got here..... It's gonna take my another week and a whole bottle of windex, but it does work.IMG_0143.JPG

    My wife used 90% alcohol to remove almost 95% of the coating (MBP 2012, 13 inches), and I used it too but I achieved only 25% (MBP 2013 Late, 15 inches), but it's more than just removed the coating on black stripes around the screen. I plan to remove the coating and fit some anti-glare cover from Amazon.

    I have found the solution!!

     

    Living in a third world country means you cant really rely on taking your mac in for repair as it takes 3-4 weaks for them to replace the screen.  Plus, the replacement program only ran until this October (2016) so if you missed it here is the best solution.

     

    You will need:

    • 2 x small(ish) bottles of alcohol. (high percentage of alcohol.  NOT BEER!)
    • 2 x microfibre cloths

     

    Empty the 1 bottle of alcohol into a container.  Start by dabbing the one cloth in the alcohol and start cleaning your screen in circle movements. Keep on doing this until you see some of the coating coming off!

     

    About 20 minutes later you should be quite tired from making those little circles, now open the next bottel and start drinking it until the pain in your arms disappear, then carry on until the screen is clean.

     

    This really worked for me and I just saved myself 3-4weeks of downtime by just putting some back into it.  My screen is now as good as new.  (without the anti glare coating, but it looks great)
