It has been stuck for an hour, multiple reinstalls and restarts have not helped. I am on WiFi, everythign was fine I just updated my number.
Has anyone else had this problem? worst of all Viber has no way to contact them directly, I have seen this question asked in other forums unanswered so I know it is not only me.
I never have these problems with Skype.

I am having the same problem as several others.
Viber will not sync to my iPhone contacts list.
This was not a problem before I updated viber. After the update my viber contacts were gone.
Viber says "syncing". But the result is an empty viber contact list.
I still get notifications when one of my contacts becomes a new viber user but the viber contacts list remains empty.
I have uninstalled and re installed. I have used wifi then 3G Uninstalled and re installed in each configuration.
Still an empty viber contact list.

Solution: Certain wifi networks do not work with Viber's setup phase - for whatever reason. I had to switch off and use a 3g connection, let it sync, and then when I returned to WiFi it worked again. Wish this was in their FAQ. Thanks.

I read your earlier answer and tried all combinations.
Viber contacts vanished when I updated viber. Sync notice but no contacts loaded
Wifi on. 3G on. Wifi off 3G on. Wifi on 3G off.
Delete and reload in each configuration.
Delete and reload in each configuration with hard reset of the iPhone.
Same problem contacts are not synced.

See my answer. The problem is certain types of lan/wifi networks don't work with viber, especially when doing the setup. turn off wifi, sync it over 3g/4g, then turn wifi back on.
I updated my phone number and Viber is now stuck syncing contacts.
