ipod nano 4th generation, 8gb dead?

Hi, First of all, of course my problem is that I can't turn on or even charge my ipod nano 4th gen. I did everything that people said to do: Press and hold the menu button, and the round button in the center, toggle the switch, and plug it in to my computer..but none of them work. Should I contact Apple by email? Should I go to the nearest Apple store? Is there anything else I can do to try get it back or is it gone forever? ... Thanks. 😝
