Is there any way to lock the screen during phone calls. Every time i put the phone on my shoulder my face touches the screen and i mute, add a caller or worse hang up on the person Im talking to. Bad design if ask me.

I've had an HTC since 2012 until a month ago when I switched to team iPhone and I have been able to lock the screen on the Inspire, HTC First, HTC One Mini and even my Pantech Flex were able to lock the screen while on the phone using the lock button. I'm so used to using the lock button to lock the screen. I hung up on my friend twice in a row and couldn't figure out why. She has been team android for as long as I was team android so I asked her what was doing and she explained that the lock button would hang up and that *****. It should be an option in the setting like with most Android phones. It would have "lock button function options". I have a waterproof case on my iPhone and I've read in the reviews that there was a problem with the proxy sensor.
if you press the sleep/wake button on top of the phone, that should lock the screen
Sounds like your proximity sensor is not working correctly. The proximity sensor is designed to lock the screen when it detects your face within a close enough distance.
Your case or screen protector may be interfering with your proximity sensor. Remove everything and see if you still have the problem. If you don't, get a different case. If you do, then, as TJBUSMC1973 suggested, you may have a hardware problem with the sensor.

How about a lock button on the phone screen ? The sleep wake button just ends the call
No, the sleep wake button should not end the call. It should just lock the screen.
The screen should lock automatically when you hold the phone to your face. If it doesn't, there's something wrong with it.
Tapping the sleep/wake (AKA power) button locks the screen during a call on my phone.
I wish it did but it hangs up every time is there a setting for that button
Have you tried resetting your device by pressing and holding the Home button and power button until the silver apple appears?

Hmm, I think you're right, but try it with headphones in. That's how I always make my calls.
But using headphones avoids your issue anyways.
Check your phone without a case on it. See if the proximity sensor works then.
Ends call every time
Actually, Meg, I just tested it on my phone. S/W button without headphones = call ends. S/W button withheadphones = screen locks.
I dont use headphones i can only hear out of one ear so this is a problem when my hand are full
Maybe use a Bluetooth earpiece in your good ear?
