I need some help...I purchased songs and have them in a playlist but when I exit itunes they are not on my ipod to listen to. HELP?

Someone please help me...I know its simple but when I go to my ipod to listen my my new playlist is not there

iPod nano (3rd generation), Windows 8

I have loaded the latest itunes and just purchased and hour of music...I think it was suppose to go to my ipod when I exit itunes but nothing is there on my ipod
