MacBook Pro won't start up

Hi - when I turn the Mac on, it sings as usual, then goes to a grey screen with the logo, the wheel & the progress bar. When it's at about 25% along the progress bar, the bar disappears, then a second later the screen goes black in silence. I've tried the safe boot & tried to reset the NVRAM / PRAM but nothing happened. Is there anything else I can do?

I purchased the Mac 10mths ago but apparently my tech support has expired. Do you think it's worth paying £35 to ask someone at apple for support or is the Mac dead? I have all my data on a back up.

Thanks

Thanks for the quick response. I already did what I could re the article on troubleshooting (although I found some of it hard to follow) so I did the test - result was "no trouble found" so I hit "restart" hoping it would magically fix itself, but I'm back to square one. Grey screen, then black screen. Should I pay the £35 and hope the guy on the end of the phone can help?
