I understand that imessage allows you to text other apple devices but how do you block a specific person from messaging you? I don't want to turn imessage off on my iphone, I just want to block someone from texting me.
Anyone know how to do this?
There is at this time no way to block a specific user from sending you a message. That will come in iOS 7 this fall, but for now there's no way to do this. If this is spam or an abusive user, you can report it to Apple:

but I don't know what steps they can take.

At the moment there is no way to block iMessaging. My understanding is that iOS 7 will include that function, but it will not be avilable until sometime this fall. SMS message blocking is a function of your carrier's network.
Thank you for the information. Unfortunately, it's not spam or abusive user, just a boy that I don't want contacting my daughter anymore. Blocked is phone number but he is still messaging her through his ipod.
I guess I will be looking forward to iOS 7 🙂
Perhaps a call to his parents would do some good. For now, that's going to be your only option.
