Mac has 10.3.9 with Classic, can I update to Tiger?

I have an old PPC iBook 800 running 10.3.9 and has the OS9 Classic Enviorment installed. I have a Tiger 10.4.6 PPC version Install DVD. If I update to the Tiger will the Classic Enviornment remain or will I have to reinstall that also?

thanks,

Rob

OS X 10.5 is the end of the line for PPC.

For what should work, Apple has OS X 10.4 PPC specs and requirements and OS X 10.5 specs and requirements.

The old installer DVDs are usually system-model-specific, unless you have what's known as a retail disk.

I don't know if the Classic stuff will carry over, and it's been an eon since I've worked on Tiger. Make a backup or two, and preferably to an external storage device. On no evidence, I'd expect to reinstall, but check the release notes and doc for 10.4 or 10.5 or whatever you're deciding to upgrade to.
