using ipod to transfer music to new computer

Ages ago i copied all my CDs onto itunes on my old computer.That computer died, cant even be switched on , and i replaced it.Is there a way to copy music from my ipod, ie all those CDs, into itunes on my new computer. My ultimate intention is to transfer some of them onto my ipad.

also I havent dared buy any new music on itunes as im worried that if i do, and then sync the ipod, i will lose all those CDs

im really not hot on technology so any pointers would be appreciated
