Q: so my computer starts with the apple logo and the timer spinning, then it goes gray with a message telling me to restart my computer by holding down the power button until it turns off, then press the power button again. I have done this more than 5 times

So I just came from the apple store and had my laptop checked at the genius bar. They said it was the battery that was causing my laptop to go gray and freezing up. They installed the new battery and I should have had it checked while I was in the store but I was too grateful for their service and came home immediately. But, once I attempted to turn on my computer, the screen told me to restart by holding down the power button until it turned off, then press the power button again. I did this over 5 times. What do I do now?

    That's called a kernel panic ...

Read here >  OS X: About kernel panics

If you can't resolve the problem, post a log. That should reveal what's causing the kernel panic.

Open the Console app located in HD > Applications > Utilites

Select:  System Diagnostic Reports  on the left.

Copy and paste the most recent kernel panic or crash log in your Reply.
