I recently updated my iPhone 3GS to 4.2 which is the latest version available for this device to install whatsapp on it but then I realized that whatsapp iOS minimum requirements is iOS 4.3 and later. I would like to know your solutions guys if you have ones.

Well I have Iphone 3Gs model MC134X/A running OS 6.1.6 (10B500).
I have made sure that the OS is the latest via settings/general/software update.
However, when I try to download Whatsapp, it tells me that I need to update my OS and won't let me download.
So is the only solution to buy an expensive new iphone just to get Whatsapp and chuck the old one, that is still working perfectly in every other respect?
This is very bad for the user, bad for business and bad for the environment. What a crazy world we live in, technological progress has started to send us backwards!😢

Yes, that's apparently what Whatsapp wants you to do. They have chosen not to support older version of iOS.
It is currently possible to update an iphone 3gs but not 3g. Since your using iphone 3gs, you still should be able to download the next update from settings>general>software update. If not you can download an uptdate from your computer. You should start of though by going to ios 4.3, or 5 if it is allowed.

That means that you have an iPhone 3G NOT the 3Gs.
Impossible to install Whatsapp in there.
If you have to have Whatsapp, then you must purchase a new iPhone.
Your five year old iPhone is not capable of running it.
