Intel Processor 32bit- Need 64bit
I supposedly have a 64 bit mac desktop, purchased in 2006. It's supposedly a 64bit computer with an intel processor. Apple says it can only run on 32 bit. How can I upgrade this?

Which Mac did you purchase? Open > About this Mac, and tell us the processor. If it's an Intel Core Duo or a PowerPC processor, it's not 64-bit
Note that it may be a 64-bit processor but not have the firmware necessary to boot the OS to the 64-bit kernel.
In any case, this is not an Apple Remote Desktop question. I'd suggest you take up this issue in the forum for your model of Mac.

It's 64-bit, and you should be able to run 64-bit apps in Snow Leopard and Lion. However, Mountain Lion is a full 64-bit Mac OS X version and your computer has got a 32-bit EFI, so you can't run it
Anyway to upgrade the firmware?
Open the Apple menu > Software Update, and install all available updates. However, you won't get the 64-bit EFI
No, there isn't, not officially. There are some hacks floating around the internet that claim to allow you to force Mountain Lion on to an unsupported system, if running ML is your aim, but most are for Mac Pro and involve having to change out the graphics card and other hardware. For a 2006 system it would probably more cost-effective to sell it and buy a newer system that officially will support Mountain Lion.
