Q: I was installing an update in my iTunes when I had a power outage. Upon restart I could not open my iTunes. The message said "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Will I lose all my songs and other data?

I was installing an update in my iTunes when I had a power outage. Upon restarting I am now unable to open iTunes. I receive a message "This copy of iTunes is corrupted or is not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes." My iPad, iPhone and iPod are all coordinated with my iTunes. Will I lose all my data and songs, etc. if I reinstall iTunes?

    Your iTunes library is stored in a folder, usually in the Music folder of your computer and is separate from the application. Before you go about uninstalling iTunes, you can see where your current library is located with this article:

    Note: You would usually only change the iTunes Media folder location to share music between accounts on the same computer. See this article for specific steps on how to accomplish this. Also, see this article if you want to know how to move your music to a new computer.

    1. Mac OS X: Click the iTunes menu and choose Preferences.
      Windows: Click the Edit menu and choose Preferences.
    2. Click the Advanced pane. iTunes displays the location of your iTunes Media folder.

    Once you know where your library is, you can use either one of these articles to uninstall iTunes depending on the version of Windows you have.
