I just got an iPhone 5. I had done a backup of my iPhone 3GS. After restoring to the new phone I do see my pictures and contacts but I'm missing all of my apps.

Are the apps in itunes on your computer?
The backup does not contain any itunes content. You should always make sure that everything is on your computer. If you have failed to do this, then you will need to redownload the apps. Open itunes store on your computer, click Purchased under Quick Links
