If your printer is Aiprint capable you only have to go to the share tab, click it and you should see the name of your printer. Most AirPrint printers are very easy to set up. My HP recognized my wireless network when I turned it on and I simply followed the printers prompts to finish the setup. Apple has a list of AirPrint capable printers. Is yours on the list? See list from website

As a alternate you can buy devices like xPrintServer by Lantronix which are supposed to allow you to use your existing printer. The device is hard wired to your printer but communicates wirelessly with your idevice.

Other options have companies like HP have services that basically allow you to send your material you want to print to HP and they in turn route it to your printer.

Hope one of these will work for you.

Setup a typical HP AirPrint Printer

1. Insert the CD into the CD drive of the computer, and then wait a few seconds for the software installer to start.

2. Accept the installation agreements, and then click Next . It might take several minutes for your computer to install the printer software.

3. You will be asked to connect printer to computer with USB cable

4. You will be ask how you want to connect to printer, select Network (Ethernet/Wireless) and then click Next.

5. Setup will access computer and router for wireless settings.

6. Setup will ask if you want to use wireless settings (SSID and Password) to setup printer. Select Yes and press Next.

7. Setup will then send wireless settings to printer.

8. Once printer is setup, you will be ask to remove USB cable.

9. The printer is now ready for AirPrint.

After many hours of battling, I found that the ISP was blocking the printer from getting an IP address for some reason. The easiest way to fix this is to implement a DHCP/NAT setup on your router if you are not already. I have an Apple AirPort Extreme (circa 2009) and when I did this with one of the private addressing options, my HP LaserJet P1606dn was able to acquie an IP address on my private network and be availalbe for printing access from multiple iOS devices and my MacBook. Hope this helps.
