My macbook pro made a sound like an alarm at start up and did not come on. I kept the start button pressed until it shut down and then started it up again. It started fine. Should I be worried?

Hard to say not knowing what this alarm was or sounded like nor what happened afterwards.
it sounded like a an alarm, beep, beep, beep. And the screen was dark and the computer was not starting up. Like I said I forced quit and then after a few minutes started it up again.
Three beeps at startup signals defective memory. Have you replaced the RAM modules? You might check that they are properly and fully seated. Couldn't hurt to remove them and clean the edge pins using a clean pencil eraser (clean both sides.)
